Seeing Through Touch

24/01/2018

This experiment was filmed in a private studio space, with no audience present.

Materials: Canvas, Charcoal Sticks.

Performers: Jenny, myself.

Routine: Two people stood facing a canvas. The front person (myself) stands facing the blank canvas, topless. The back person (Jenny) uses their fingers to “Draw” patterns onto the front person’s back, using improvisation. The front person’s role is to then recreate these patterns, onto the canvas in front of them using charcoal.

This experiment explores the senses and connections. The main question here is; Through the photographs, and the video, can you truly experience the performance, in the same way, that you would if you was watching live?

The video is a combination of two video’s which were taken during the performance. It allows the viewer to see both viewpoints; The canvas and the back person’s canvas – My back. It allows the viewer to see the connection between the two performers and the canvas.
